Seborrheic Keratosis - Flegel's Disease
Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 10:33AM Flegel's Disease, also called Hyperkeratosis Lenticularis Perstans, are small keratotic plaques that are almost exclusively found on the calves, which I occasionally encounter in my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices. Flegel's Disease shares many characteristics of Seborrheic Keratoses but on histology there is a bandlike inflammatory infiltrate in the papillary dermis that is lacking in Seborhreic Keratoses. Also once treated, Flegel's Disease usually does not recur unlike Seborrheic Keratoses. Treatment of Flegel's Disease can be accomplished through liquid nitrogen destruction, topical emollients, or Efudex cream.
