Granuloma Annulare – Patch Type

January 27th, 2011

Patch Type Granuloma Annulare, also called Macular Granuloma Annulare, appears as flat red/brown patches that are non-palpable which I encounter in my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices.  Patch Type Granuloma Annulare is most common in women aged 30 or older and typically occurs on the upper thighs, groin and buttock.  When the patches are stretched, small papules may be discernable which appear like classic Granuloma Annulare.  The papules are the best area for biopsy as they have the highest yield of classic histological features.
