Neural Tissue Abnormalities – Neurofibroma

August 9th, 2014

Neurofibromas are a very common skin lesion that I encounter routinely in both my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices.  Clinically, a Neurofibroma appears as a flesh colored raised papule/nodule that is soft and mobile.  Neurofibromas are benign and may appear as a solitary lesion or multiple lesions may exist.  When multiple Neurofibromas are present there is a possibility that the patient has the genetic condition neurofibromatosis.  These lesions do not need treatment unless the Neurofibromas become symptomatic or are in an anatomic location where they are becoming irritated.  In such cases, shave excision or surgical excision can be performed.
