Rosacea – Pyoderma Faciale

October 4th, 2010

Pyoderma Faciale, also called Rosacea Fulminans, is a severe form of rosacea most commonly affecting women which results in deep draining cystic nodules in the T zone of the face with sparing of the back and chest.  It is very similar to Acne Fulminans (see blog entry Acne – Acne Fulminans) and fortunately I only see this very rarely in my Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology clinics.  As this type of rosacea can lead to permanent scarring, treatment must be sought immediately.  Systemic steroids are needed initially to decrease the inflammation.  Pyoderma Faciale
