Everyone gets stressed, but did you know that stress has an impact on your skin? Your skin can negatively show how much you have been stressed and can even make previous skin conditions worse.

How?

What most people don’t know is that stress is a chemical response that your body goes through. This can make skin more sensitive, make acne appear, cause previous skin conditions to reappear or even cause more skin issues.

Skin Conditions

Have you noticed that when you are stressed you begin to break out? This is caused by the chemical that produces oil on the skin. Acne is one of the most things caused by stress, but not the only thing. Some people can get hot rashes that consist of patches of red dots that cause the skin to itch and burn or some people can get blisters on the skin. No matter if it’s acne or rashes, stress can cause different skin conditions for everyone and it is important to monitor them and check with a dermatologist if necessary.

Previous Conditions

Not only does stress cause new skin conditions, it can also cause flare ups of previous skin conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea and eczema. When people get stressed and it makes another condition worse, they usually stress about that causing even more outbreaks.

How to Reduce Stress

Stress comes in all shapes and sizes, but here are a few ways you can reduce stress and save your skin:

  • Take a walk
  • Journal
  • Get enough sleep
  • Read a book
  • Take a bath

Stress ultimately affects your whole body, including your skin. It can be very minimal or extremely severe. It is crucial to take some time for yourself and reduce stress and make sure to contact your dermatologist if symptoms get worse.
