Sebaceous Neoplasms – Sebaceoma

Sebaceomas, also called Sebaceous Epitheliomas, are almost clinically identical to Basal Cell Cancers and I occasionally encounter them in my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices.  There is some disagreement as to the classification of Sebaceomas.  In my opinion, Sebaceomas are essentially Basal Cell Cancers with sebaceous differentiation histologically, thus they should be treated as a low grade skin cancer.  Sebaceomas have been associated with Muir Torre Syndrome in which a patient may have a genetic predisposition for sebaceous tumors and underlying colon cancer or genitourinary cancer.
