Fibrous Tissue Abnormalities – Connective Tissue Nevi

Connective Tissue Nevi are benign skin lesions I occasionally encounter in both my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices.  Connective Tissue Nevi typically occur on the chest and back and appear as yellow/orange slightly elevated plaques.  They typically occur as multiple lesions.  The texture of the Connective Tissue Nevi is described as resembling shagreen leather.  Hereditary conditions exists such as Tuberous Sclerosis that produce Connective Tissue Nevi but they can also appear as isolated findings.  Biopsies of Connective Tissue Nevi are non descript as they may appear like normal skin histologically.  As they are benign, treatment is not needed.
