Fibrous Tissue Abnormalities – Angiofibromas

Angiofibromas are a very common benign fibrous tissue abnormality that I encounter in both my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices.  Clinically, Angiofibromas are small flesh colored to red papules that are most commonly found on the ala of the nose.  They can be removed by shave biopsy but tend to recur.  Occasionally, Angiofibromas are seen in genetic diseases such as tuberous sclerosis, Birt Hogg Dube syndrome and MEN type 1.  There is a variant of Angiofibromas that occurs on the penis which is called Pearly Penile Papules.  In this condition, multiple Angiofibromas surround the coronal sulcus of the glans penis.
