Calcinosis Cutis – Tumoral Calcinosis
Tumoral Calcinosis is a type of Calcinosis Cutis that I occasionally encounter in both my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices. Clinically, the lesions are very large white nodules that appear in areas of increased pressure such as the joints of the elbow or knee. Typically, the skin is not involved as the calcium buildup is found in the fat layer (subcutaneous tissue). Internal organs are spared as the calcium level in the body is normal. Treatment involves surgical excision.
