Generalized Eruptive Keratoacanthomas, also called Gryzbowski’s Disease, is a very rare sporadic disease with no hereditary component that I have occasionally encountered in my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices. Patients with Generalized Eruptive Keratacanthomas typically present with the first Keratoacanthomas in their 40’s and 50’s. Ultimately, patients with Generalized Eruptive Keratoacanthomas may develop over a thousand Keratoacanthomas and can arise anywhere on the body including the oral mucosa. The only areas that are spared from developing Keratoacanthomas are the palms and soles. The cause of Generalized Eruptive Keratoacanthomas is unknown. Although many Keratoacanthomas occur, the rate of metastasis is very low as well as the incidence of internal malignancy. Some patients benefit from oral retinoids to minimize the occurrence of the Keratoacanthomas but surgical excision is recommended for treatment.
