Fat Tissue Abnormalities – Neural Fibrolipoma
Neural Fibrolipomas are a type of lipoma that I occasionally encounter in both my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices. Neural Fibrolipomas arise from an excessive growth of fibrous and adipose tissue along a nerve trunk. This can cause compression of the nerve resulting in pain or decreased sensation and/or paraesthesias. The most common nerve involved is the median nerve supplying the hand. Diagnosis is confirmed with an MRI but treatments are not very effective.
