Fat Tissue Abnormalities – Spindle Cell Lipoma
Spindle Cell Lipoma is a benign variant of lipomas that I occasionally encounter in both my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology office. Spindle Cell Lipomas typically grow slowly and are most often found on the posterior neck, shoulders and back of older men. In most cases, a Spindle Cell Lipoma is solitary although occasionally there may be multiple lesions. Clinically, they appear similar to a classic lipoma but on histology they have spindle cell proliferation surrounding the adipose tissue. Treatment involves surgical excision if they become troublesome or symptomatic.
