Hair Follicle Neoplasms – Desmoplastic Trichoepithelioma
Desmoplastic Trichoepithelioma is a benign hair follicle neoplasm and a rare variant of a Trichoepithelioma that I occasionally encounter in both my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices. Clinically, a Desmoplastic Trichoepithelioma appears like a basal cell cancer with a rolled border and a can have a central depression called a “central dell.” Desmoplastic Trichoepitheliomas are most commonly found in young women and have a predilection for the face. Treatment of Desomoplastic Trichoepitheliomas is surgical excision, but when the lesions are multiple dermabrasion or laser resurfacing may be an option.
