Neural Tissue Abnormalities – Encephalocele
Encephaloceles occur when a defect exists in the neural tube during embryonic development and I have never encountered this condition in either my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices. Clinically, an Encephalocele appears in infancy along the midline of the face, scalp neck or back. When an infant cries, the Encephalocele may enlarge. In some cases, a tuft of black hair or an area of hair loss may occur over an Encephalocele. These lesions need radiologic and neurosurgical evaluation.
