Post Steroid Panniculitis is a rare form of panniculitis that I occasionally encounter in both my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices. Post Steroid Panniculitis typically occurs in children who have taken very high doses of systemic steroids and then undergo rapid withdrawal of these steroids. Usually within a month tender indurated nodules arise in anatomic areas with high densities of subcutaneous fat. In most children affected by Post Steroid Panniculitis, the nodules resolve spontaneously; however, the steroids may need to be re-initiated in those with recalcitrant lesions and then tapered much more slowly.
