Smooth Muscle Abnormalities – Multiple Cutaneous Leiomyomas

Multiple Cutaneous Leiomyomas are the most common variant of smooth tissue abnormalities and I occasionally encounter them in my The Woodlands dermatology and Conroe dermatology offices.  Clinically, Multiple Cutaneous Leiomyomas appear as a group of small red/brown or flesh colored papules.  They are most often found on the arms, legs and trunk.  In most cases, they form a linear pattern.  They can be inherited, thus they may appear to “run in families.”  In the inherited variant, patients may have a predisposition to uterine leiomyomas and renal cell cancer.
